About the Event
On October 24, our local historian Sheila will share her experiences from a month spent in South China. She journeyed by bullet train from Hong Kong to the stunning karst landscapes of Guilin and Yangshuo, where she stayed at a Tai School. On the day of the rice harvest, she explored the ancient terraces in Longsheng, visited the minority Dong villages, and experienced the vibrant cities of Guangzhou (formerly known as Canton) and Hong Kong, where she uncovered a connection to Bisham. Sheila's presentation will feature her experiences and photos, covering topics such as the people, transportation, cuisine, landscapes, and the ways in which technology both assists and poses challenges for Western travelers in contemporary China.
Tickets are priced at £10 per person, with wine and coffee available for a donation.
